Alex Chang featured in The Stage
Winterson’s actor Alex Chang was recently featured in The Stage newspaper, in an interesting piece by John Byrne, the publication’s Careers Adviser, for the ‘How to’ section. In this case, Alex drew upon his experience in the commercials sector to provide tips to fellow actors on ‘How to nail a commercial’.
“Commercial castings are very different to those of theatre, film and TV,” says Chang. “You will have learned about the importance of openness at drama school. It’s crucial in commercials. Be pleasant, smile and be someone the clients want to entrust to sell their product.”
“The first commercial casting I went to, I had to dance imagining I was wearing skin-tight pink leather jeans, and try to be seductive directly at the camera to impress the ladies in the nightclub. All while Gangnam Style by Psy was playing out of a speaker. The point here is that people in everyday life are uncomfortable with making a fool out of themselves, but you’re an actor. So have fun with that and be prepared to do anything the director or casting director throws at you.”
The article has appeared in both online and in print and we have seen some great debate around the topics it covers on social media. You can read the full version in the online version of The Stage here.
A huge congratulations to Alex in his recent commercial success, which he is currently leveraging to make further successful in-roads into the other areas of his acting career over in LA.
