Summer Strallen to star in Young Frankenstein
Summer Strallen will star in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein, it has been announced. She will be performing alongside Hadley Fraser, Ross Noble and Lesley Joseph in the forthcoming West End musical. The Olivier Award-nominated actress is currently starring as Jessica in Hysteria, and the new show will begin in August 2017.
Based on Brooks’ 1974 film, Young Frankenstein sees Brooks collaborate with director and choreographer Susan Stroman. The production begins previews at the Garrick Theatre on September 28, with press night on October 10, and prior to that it will play a season at the Theatre Royal Newcastle from August 26 to September 9.
The work is a reimagining of the original Mary Shelley text, and follows the fortunes of Frederick Frankenstein – an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor – who inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather.
It’s another high-profile role for Strallen, who recently spoke to The Stage about the breadth of her career. Further updates will follow over the coming months around what promises to be a great addition to the West End.
