Cursed Child wins big at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards 2017
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is currently playing at the Palace Theatre and features Winterson’s actress Chipo Kureya, received a total of 3 awards at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards last month.
The Critics Circle Theatre Awards are presented annually for the closing year’s theatrical achievements. The winners, from theatre throughout the UK, are selected via vote by the professional theatre critics of The Critics’ Circle and were this year hosted by the Critics’ Circle Drama Section Chairman Mark Shenton, at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was the big winner at the event taking three awards including Best Director for John Tiffany, Best Designer for Christine Jones and Most Promising Newcomer for Anthony Boyle.
“It’s a huge honour to be involved in such a successful and sought out show,” said Chipo Kureya, who has appeared in the show since it opened in the West End last in July 2016. “I’ve had a blast so far. The Production’s recent wins at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards are just another example of the great recognition the play is receiving and I could not be more proud.”
The two-part West End stage play was written by Jack Thorne and is based on an original new story by Thorne, J.K. Rowling, and John Tiffany. Since its debut in the West End last year, the show has consistently received spellbinding reviews.
A huge congratulations to Chipo and the rest of the Company, Sonia Friedman Productions and the entire Cursed Child team on continued success.
