Melissa Johns nominated for Diversity in Media Award

Winterson’s actress, Melissa Johns, has been nominated in the 2018 Diversity in Media Awards, to be held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London on Friday 21st September. The actress has been a vocal campaigner for increased diversity across the industry in recent years.

The Diversity in Media Awards recognise and celebrate the voices that accurately reflect the society we live in. The aim is to encourage and inspire people to pursue a career in the media, by shining a light on role models and best practice. With sponsors including MTV, The Huffington Post, and The Economist, it’s a huge event in the annual awards calendar.

Johns, who recently played the role of of Imogen Pascoe in Coronation Street, has been nominated for Actor of the Year at the Media in Diversity Awards, and faces some strong competition from the likes of John Boyega and Sarah Lancashire. We would encourage everybody to vote for Melissa here to support her in making the final shortlist, which the judges will then vote on.

Melissa’s work in championing diversity on our screens has become increasingly publicised in recent months, and last year she won a 2017 TOYP Award, granted by the global JCI organisation to Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World, for inspirational achievements in the acting industry. The actress is also an Ambassador for Invisiyouth Charity and Models of Diversity.
