National’s unique take on Pinocchio receives critical acclaim
The highly anticipated National Theatre take on Disney classic Pinocchio took to the stage last week, featuring Winterson’s actor Stuart Angell. The show provides a dark and mysterious interpretation of the original story, bringing a visually stunning production to life on the stage. The show has received some strong reviews amongst the national and industry press, and we have outlined a short selection here.
“The almost-real boy and adorably annoying cricket win hearts and minds in John Tiffany’s skilful, subtle adaptation.”
★★★★ — The Guardian
“Tiffany and his hyper-talented creative team – headed by designer Bob Crowley and puppetry director Toby Olié – have imagined the ‘Pinocchio’ world as a dizzyingly strange place in which almost everyone either looks like a puppet or actually is a puppet.”
★★★★ — Time Out
“The dance routine at Pleasure Island is flawless slapstick, hilarious and distressing in equal measure, and however they do the nose-elongation, it looks fantastically realistic.”
★★★★ — City AM
A huge congratulations to Stuart and the entire team, and for more information on Pinocchio at the National click here.
