“Fifty years on, Tom Stoppard’s play remains strange and charming.”
Henry Hitchings, Evening Standard – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“Director David Leveaux mines the play expertly for all its subplots and subtexts around the purpose and meaning of what each character is striving, mostly fruitlessly, towards, against Fleischle’s backdrop of panels with cloud-like shapes painted on them.”
Mark Shenton, The Stage – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“What a pleasure it is to have them back – and particularly to see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern returning to the theatre where its first National Theatre production made such an impact 50 years ago. Stoppard has such a distinctive voice as a playwright – clever, witty, endless playing with concepts and conceits, effortlessly profound.”
Sarah Crompton, WhatsOnStage – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“The cheering fact is that this is a young man’s play that still seems sprightly, invigorating and even moving in its preoccupation with the inevitability of death.”
Michael Billington, The Guardian – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
